Artist Statement
My work is about paying attention to the nuances in conversations, to the shadows dancing on the floor, the way a plant grows, the cracks unseen and the moments overlooked. I spend time reflecting on those things and finding meaning in them. It’s a treasure hunt—the search, through art making. I pay attention to my direct experience and what is happening in my heart and mind. I communicate this dialogue by layering marks, materials, colors, into integrated compositions.
Working primarily in a sketchbook with mixed media, my recent work is a reflection of everyday interactions with people, ideas, and nature. Each work ultimately tries to make sense of this world into something meaningful. Often the most simple and mundane moments have the richest treasures, and I love seeking them out.
